The rest of the story about Scott Rigell

This is an update to my previous article in support of Scott Rigell. Since I wrote that article he has been inducted into the Hampton Roads Business Hall of Fame and also received the endorsements of Governor Bob McDonnell and Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling. There have also been numerous news articles that do not give a true picture of this mans character or accomplishments.

For those that do not know my background, I am not your typical political junkie. Prior to 2008 I will readily admit that I never used to pay much attention to politics. But that Presidential race and the lack of adequate news coverage changed my perspective. I no longer trusted the media to cover the whole story and I no longer trusted the elected politicians to represent my interests and protect our Constitution. Instead, I watched a Presidential election become ‘American Idolized’.

Following that Presidential election, I became involved to the level that I started hosting a conservative political talk-radio show. I was engaged to the point that I eventually ran for elected office. In 2009 I was the first woman to run for the House of Delegates in the 100th District. If you have never run for office you have no idea what it takes and what it takes out of you. I commend all of the candidates for being willing to step up to the plate.

My campaign gave me the opportunity to really get to know all of the gentlemen now running for the VA-02 Congressional seat. Most of them regularly attended my rallies and functions on the Eastern Shore. They recognized my functions would be an easy way for them to meet Republican voters. All of the Eastern Shore 100th District of Virginia is in the VA Second Congressional district. (Ms. Sandlin did not get in the race until much later.)

Scott Rigell made his very first political speech on the back of a flat-bed trailer at one of my rallies. Most of the other VA-02 Congressional candidates were also there along with then-candidate for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

During this time and following my race, I did get to know these candidates. To say that Scott Rigell ‘represents the GOP establishment’ is simply not true; at least not in the derogatory way it is being bantered about. While it is true that he has been honored with the most endorsements, you should note that the other candidates were actively courting any GOP endorsements they could garner.

Scott Rigell, on the other hand, was fortunate to receive many unsolicited endorsements because these individuals knew and respected him and his accomplishments. It is easy to recognize the positive difference between he and the other candidates after spending even a short amount of time chatting with him. Indeed, Mr. Rigell was just recently inducted into the Hampton Roads Business Hall of Fame. The individuals that support him are doing just that, supporting Scott Rigell – the individual, AS INDIVIDUALS who happen to hold elected office.

While Maulbeck has been the most outspoken against GOP endorsements in the primary; when asked on a local radio show if he would have turned down the endorsement of Governor Bob McDonnell – he stated he could not say that he would. Of course, Ed – you would have been honored to have our Governor’s endorsement. But that honor was bestowed on Rigell. As far as the Young Guns rating of the NRCC; this rating was available to ALL the candidates. (But they don’t tell you they did not meet the qualifications.) Only one other candidate received any notice and that was Mizusawa. The only reason Mizusawa did not move higher up on the NRCC radar is because his campaign did not meet the same benchmarks as Rigell’s.

Scott Rigell has never held elected office. I do not believe any of these candidates have. He no more represents the ‘GOP establishment’ then any of the others. Has he worked harder to help get conservatives elected than any of the others? YES! Has he donated more to help conservative candidates than any of the others in this race? YES! Does that make him part of the ‘GOP establishment’? I don’t think so. But it seems he will be attacked regardless of to whom he makes a donation. You can’t have it both ways; attack him for a small donation that was clearly done in protest and also attack him because he donated ‘too much’ to conservative candidates. Scott has been there supporting those taking the risk to run for office – more than ALL of his competitors combined.

He is an Elder in his church. With his wife, Teri, he has homeschooled all four of their children. And most important, (to me anyway) he is a savvy businessman. I’ve been self-employed since I was 23. I do understand how hard it is to establish and grow a successful business. I believe part of the reason Congress is such a train wreck is because most of those in Congress have no idea how to run a successful business. One that doesn’t have the luxury of printing its own money.

Scott Rigell understands. He understands how to excel in business; be a husband and father and also how to put God and Country first. I can say firsthand, from the vantage point of actually having run for office, I understand how much the party can be the problem. Scott Rigell also understands. He will not let Congress change or control him. He is a man of unflinching character. He has my support and I trust him to represent me in Congress. I hope you will join me in supporting him on Tuesday, June 8th in the primary. Voting will take place at your normal voting locations.

VA-100th HOD DEBATE!!! Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore is hosting a debate on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Eastern Shore Community College Workforce Development Center. Melody Scalley, John Smith and Lynwood Lewis are planning to attend. PLEASE join us!

I have met Bob McDonnell’s Wife & Daughters

I have had the priviledge of attending many meetings and events with Bob McDonnell.  I’ve also met his wife, Maureen and his daughters.

The Deed’s campaign attacks on McDonnell and women are just plain FALSE.  Bob McDonnell has tremendous respect for ALL women!  He lives with a family of strong and independent women.  From his own daughter serving in Iraq to all of the women he has hired for crucial positions – I can assure you that Bob McDonnell would be the BEST Governor for bringing JOB opportunities to Virginia for EVERYONE!

“Impossible is Nothing”

The Virginia Republican Convention

As you probably know by now the GOP candidates this fall will be:

Bob McDonnell, Governor; Bill Bolling, Lt. Governor and Ken Cuccinelli as Attorney General and Pat Mullins was elected as Chairman to the RPV.

There were just under 7,000 delegates that showed up to vote as of 10 a.m. with over 11,000 qualified.  The convention was the largest in 15 years!

I had the opportunity to participate in a business roundtable with former Governor Mitt Romney in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon.  He was also the keynote speaker at the gala dinner on Friday night in Richmond.  I thoroughly enjoyed both events!

Saturday morning started with a breakfast with Dr. Yaron Brook from the Ayn Rand Institute as the keynote speaker.  I have previously had Dr. Brook as a guest on my radio show and it was nice to meet him in person.  Actually, over the course of the weekend, I met close to ten different folks that have been guests on my radio show (via phone) that I had not had the opportunity to meet in person before the convention.

Sean Hannity was a special speaker at the convention and it was great to hear him as well as all of the candidates.  Sen. Ken Cuccinelli’s speech seemed to garner an incredible amount of enthusiasm; however,   I have to call special attention the speech that was given by Adnan Barqawi, outgoing Commander of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.

You have to appreciate that it was probably close to 3pm by this point when he took the stage in his full dress uniform.  The crowd was tired and it was getting warm in the coliseum.  Most folks were ready to go home and hoping we could get the job done on the first ballot.   Most of the speakers were just filling time.  Mr. Adnan Barqawi truly electrified the audience!

There had been a number of speakers, and while they were certainly all with merit — this young man’s speech brought an entire audience to their feet on MULTIPLE occaisions, even though they were hot and tired.

He immigrated to the United States at the age of 17 to attend Virginia Tech University.  This young man is a descendent of Palestinian refugees. He was born in Kuwait.  At one point he says he was a, ‘man without a country’.  Now he is na U.S. Citizen.  There are many in our beloved country that could learn a great deal about responsibility and the incredible opportunity we have here in the greatest country in the world, our U.S.A.; from this young man.

Adnan Barqawi:  “Impossible is nothing but a small word thrown around by low men who would rather live in a world that is given to them than explore the opportunities that they have before them.”

“I have learned the meaning of individual responsibility. That no one is in charge of my welfare except myself.”

“I have learned that diversity is the embracing your new culture rather than expecting the culture to embrace you.”

Why Do Americans of African Descent Overwhelmingly Support Democrats?

This week guests will try to answer the question, “Why do Americans of African descent overwhelming tend to support Democratic candidates whose policies ultimately undermine their moral values and economic advancement?”.

This is one of the best articles I’ve come across on the issue: Why Is the Black Vote in the Democrats’ Pocket?

Our guests will include Nationally syndicated columnist and distinguished George Mason University Professor, Dr. Walter Williams.  We’ll also hear from Ms. Robin Martin, author of the Conservative Black Woman blog; (Mr. Coby Dillard from the African Americans for McDonnell coalition will not be able to join us.)  But we will hear from Ron Miller a MD Senate candidate.   We’ll also chat with Frances Rice, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, a lawyer and chairman of the National Black Republican Association.

Former Governer George Allen will join us to discuss the ‘Cap and Tax’ proposal and how it could impact all of us when we pay our utility bills.

Mark McKinnon, will join us to discuss the possible changes to the Employee Free Choice Act.

We’ll talk further about improving the public education available to our children with Neal McCluskey from the Cato Center for Educational Freedom.

Jim Hoeft of Bearing Drift will give us an update on the Virginia political races.  And we’ll answer the question, “Who is running for Supervisor in districts 1, 2, and 3 in Northampton County?”.

That’s this Thursday starting at 6 p.m. and streaming live on the internet until 9 p.m. (Eastern) Don’t Miss a Minute!  Melody Scalley ~ On the Edge of the Shore.

Help bring prosperity back to the U.S.A.!

Folks there a few very basic ways we can save this great country and it won't take another failed bailout! Corporations that have taken jobs oversees will come back in droves; you will take home your entire paycheck without deductions and the GDP of this country not only recover but be better than it it ever was! How? Just let your representatives and delegates know that you want them to pass the FairTax see http://www.fairtax.org for more info. Second, we really need to pass Tort Reform. There is a growing movement and many reasons for this. I'll have to expand on that later. Last, for now anyway, we can correct the shortfall in Health insurance in this country easily without turning it over to the government ~ as we all know anything the government tries to do they DO WRONG! but alas, more on this later too ;)

What’s happening in your town or county?
